Need for speed....& benchmarking

In many of the overclocking forums, I notice that there is frequent reference to frames per second (FPS) in certain games as a benchmark for computer hardware power. I guess that I just find it somewhat amusing that technology is in some respects being pushed to higher performance levels by the gaming industry.

I agree 100%. A new game comes out that drives a good computer to it's knees and it looks like a slide show trying to run it. You can either not play it, or upgrade
3D Mark 2001 is the same way.
