IDE interface needs to retire
Poritz Feb-06-02 00:04 AM
I was wonder when we will see motherboards and disk drives with a new type of interface? The thing is we have been fiddling with those ribbon cables for so long. Shouldn't we have something better by now? I had heard quite a while back that fire wire might replace the status quo and it seemed pretty good to me, with a 400Mb/s speed, hot swapability and a beautifully thin cord it seemed only logical. I have not heard anything since and was wondering if it had been abandoned or put on the back burnner? What with all the advancements being made in other areas of the PC one would think that the IDE would have been replaced long ago. So I was hoping to hear something from someone. Thanks
