DVD CDROM Drive won't play DVD movie anymore
perez_vir Aug-16-01 03:41 PM
I have an Acer Aspire PIII 733 Mhz 128MB RAM, 20GB HD, with CDRW 4X4X32X, DVD CDROM drive 10X,
133MhZ FSB.

Before I can play VCD,DVD movies & Audio CD
on my DVD Drive E: but now I can,t anymore.
I suspect the MFC42.DLL but I really don't know
what it is & how to fix it.

Would appreciate any help. Thank you.

What happens when you try to use the drive and why do suspect the mfc42.dll file?

When I insert a DVD disk, the DVD drive will not
anymore autoplay like before. When I try to run
WinDVD player(which came preloaded with the PC)
it is as if nothing happens and then a very brief
message appears something to the effect that the mfc42.dll has been corrupted. I can't remember
the exact words anymore & I can't repeat it
Thanks for having interest in my problem.

4. Missing, Out-of-date, or Corrupt MFC42.DLL file

You probably have an out-of-date version of the MFC42.DLL file installed somewhere. Or, it is missing or corrupt.
Click Start, Find, Files Folders, enter MFC42.DLL, and search the C: drive. You should find one copy in C:\windows\system\. Right click the file and select Properties, Version. It should be 6.00.8447.0 or higher. If older versions exist elsewhere, copy the one in the system directory to those locations. If an older version exists in the system directory and you have Windows 98 or newer, click Start Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Information, Tools System File Checker, Scan for Altered Files, Start.
