I have a computer that will be running and the screen will go black and crash. You try to restart and scandisk will start and only go so far and stall. Then try to boot and it can't find the boot sector. I had to fdisk and reload and it work fine for a day then it did the same think. I have the same problem, I'll fdisk and scandisk and it will show no problems with the drive. I'm running windows 98 se, AMD K6 2 500 mhz, 64 meg ram, 20 gig H/D, on board video and sound, V 90 modem, NIC. The system work fine for about month, it just started this problem. When this happpen I was on line to Microsoft downloading updates.

Thanks for your help.

Check for a virus. Is this occurring randomly or does it happen consistently and at the same point? Do you get an error message? What is it? Did you run the surface scan when you ran scandisk? Reseat all boards, and memory. Check for loose cables. Check for IRQ conflicts in the Device Manager. Are you overclocking? Larry

These people have a cat, the fan on the processor was pluged up with cat hair and dust and it stop, the processor over heated and fried. The computer did have a virus I think it was called "chance" it trigers on the Dec 8th date. I installed a new CPU, fdish and re-installed the O/S and it works just fine.

Thanks for your help.
