Hello. I'm building an Athlon PC with a Tekram motherboard and an Antec 300W power supply. These are ATX standards. When I turn on the power strip, the power goes on in my PC even without the power button on the case being pressed. After that, I can turn off and on the power by the power button. If I disconnect and reconnect the AC power, it turns on itself again. And this is how far I can boot my PC. It does not beep. The CPU fan runs and the CPU feels a little warm. So I soppose some power is on the motherboard. I have tried to pull out every component until only the CPU left. It does not make any difference. Also the power LED on the case keeps blinking. What's the problem here? Thanks a lot.

Thank you, Larry. I took the motherboard out of case. It's still the same. And I tried it with another power supply. Same thing. So I just think this board is defective. Do you think so?
BTW. I read your autobiography.

That could be... I can't do much more in the way of troubleshooting the problem without putting the computer on my workbench. Larry

Did you ever figure that one out? I have the same problem in that whenever I first plug in power, my system powers on! I'm building a Tyan Thunder 2500 with dual Plll 850's and a Zippy ATX MR2-6250F-2S power supply(redundant, hot swappable p/s). I tried a different standard ATX p/s and the problem goes away, that is the only issue I have with the system, it works fine. Let me know if you have resolved your problem.

Thanks. It turned out it was the problem with the Tekram motherboard. I sent the board back to get a replacement. It works now. BUT. I really have serious doubt about these ATX power supply specs by Intel. For one thing this new replacement still turns on itself sometimes but not always although it works no matter how it is turned on. And my PS is a 300W Antec approved by AMD. Two, I have heard a lot of people complaining about this self-on problem. Supposedly, when AC is first applied, it should turn on the PS for a few seconds and make some testing. And then it turns itself off and keeps the motherboard in a waiting mode until the power button is pressed. My guess is that the ATX specs have different versions. And Intel did not leave enough room for compatibiliy. We use IBM and Dell in our office. I think they all use ATX or ATX like power management. I have never heard of such problem in my office. I'm thinking to write an email to Intel. I'll let you know if I get any meanful answer.

my epox does this also. i think its a power dip or transient because of the powerstrip turning on everything at once. on my system, i found out if i powered up the monitor before hand, the computer doesn't boot until i hit the start button
