I have a 4200C ScanJet and have not been able to get it working it seems to be locked as when I go to scan it just clicks like it wants to and can`t. It is not locked.(that is with the part that lockes it on the bottom of the computer.
This scanner I don`t think was never used it was sitting in an office for about a year and know one was using it so brought it home to try.
I have all the software that came with it and have it installed it seems to be recognized by the computer in the devices. When I go to cameras and scanners in the control panel I go to press properties and it freezes. It won`t go in so have to shut down the task.
I am using second edition windows 98 have lots of memory on my computer and it is 500mhz processor. I have used an Acer scanner on it and it worked fine.
I inquired with HP they gave me the shut down restart thing to do tried that and it still wouldn`t work. Just wondering if anyone had any ideas before I have to make the phone call to HP.

I have done all that was mentioned. It still doesn`t work.
It is installed and light comes on it has the drivers it is found on computer but the scanner won`t move just keeps clicking.
It is not locked.
Guess you are saying it is a hardware problem that the scanner just isn`t any good.

I presume your read http://duxcw.com/digest/Fromshop/scanners/scanjet4100c/4100ctip-3.htm? That's about all I know about and I do not have one to play with. Larry
