Sygate client wont connect to internet
sellmerch May-16-01 00:06 AM
I have installed a wireless network (Acer Warplink) Host USB / Client Pcmcia cards and Sygate ICS. The LAN works fine and I succesfully can ping from the host to the client and from the client to the host. My problem is the client computer will not connect to the internet. I have @home cable service. I can ping this website from client computer using IP but not by typing the domain name. The host computer can connect perfectly to the internet. I have read so much on this forum as to what the problem could be my head is spinning. I need someone who has dealt with this issue to please give me some idea of what I could do to gain access to internet on my client. Step by step help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks MikeG

OK, it is a DNS server problem. The last paragraph at http://duxcw.com/faq/ics/ics_dns.htm should fix it. Larry

Hi Larry,
I just had a chance to try your last recommendation and it did nit work. I may have not given you all the info on my network. I have a linksys etherfast cable DSL router which possibly be giving me this problem. I downloaded a program from download.com which is called MYWANIP which is suppose to give the real IP address. It gave me a completely different IP than did winipcfg. So I guess now I am further confused My client (laptop) works fine on the local network but can not acces the web unless I type in the IP numbers and I can succesfully ping both the host and your site from the dos screen from the client but i can not access the internet from the client using the browser and website names..... PLEASE HELP. I think the linksys router is causing me this problem, how do i get around it so that my client has full access to the internet.

Larry, I hate to be a pain in the backside, I truely appreciate your help. I want to give you added info on my network. I have @home cable which comes from wall oulet and connects into external cable modem, the cable modem is connected to the linksys cable router, the router has three computers connected to it and they all network and share fine. Then I have a warplink USB card connected to what I call the host or main computer and a warplink pcmcia card on my laptop both of these are wireless and I have full file and printer share access between these but I can't seem to get an internet connection on my laptop although I can ping this websites IP address with mixed results(many times I get 3 of 4 results back on ping) also I noticed at the bottom right of my laptops browser where it says internet it also says (mixed) next to the word internet. Sorry for the run on email but I want to make sure I get you as much info as needed, If you need any further info please let me know. If you can get me up and running I would be more than happy to figure out a barter/ trade for services rendered or figure out some way to pay you back for your help...
Thank you

Mike, If you can connect with your browser to http://<;Ip Address> then it is a DNS problem--caused by what, I don't know. Could you double-check your TCP/IP configuration on the laptop to be sure the DNS server IP addresses are present? What is the make and model of the warplink equipment? Is your laptop getting its IP address from the router? Larry
