Help. Although very obvious, and easily accessed from within Windows by clicking Start, Help, this resource is often overlooked when a problem occurs.
Microsoft’s Knowledge Base. This resource is an extensive data base of how to and problem solving articles. It can be accessed via the Internet from Help in more recent versions of Windows or directly at http://search.support.microsoft.com/kb/c.asp.
The Windows Resource Kit On Line. Yes, right on that Windows CD is one of the most useful resources for understanding the intricacies of Windows and solving problems. Simply insert your Windows CD, wait for it to autostart (or access it directly with the Windows Explorer), and expand the directory tree to D:\tools\reskit\help and double-click rk98book.chm (Windows 98 and 98 SE). Look in d:\admin\reskit\helpfile on the Windows 95 CD. Windows Me doesn’t have it, sigh!
The Microsoft Developer Network Library (MSDN). The MSDN Library is an essential resource for developers using Microsoft tools, products, and technologies. It contains a bounty of technical programming information, including sample code, documentation, technical articles, and reference guides. All of the Windows resource kits, including Windows NT and 2000, are available in the MSDN Library. It can be accessed via the Internet at http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp.
