Network problems w/2 win98se boxes
jak Oct-17-01 00:17 AM
I've had 2 win98se boxes successfully networked via TCP/IP and a hub. I recently upgraded one box and can't seem to get my network back up and running. I've configured the new PC with the same parameters as the one it replaced (IP address, workgroup). Both NIC's have a green light on - as well as the hub ports. I can't ping from either box. When I try to ping from my original box, it pops up the Dial-Up Networking box to dial into my ISP. I don't know if it's related, but after an attempt to install/upgrade Real Audio player (about the same time I upgraded the other box) I started experiencing problems with Dial-Up box popping up.
Thanks in advance - Jim

Do you have Internet Connection Sharing installed? Are using static or dynamic (automatic) IP addresses? Larry

Yes, I would guess the RealPlayer install (aborted install?) has something to do with it. I would uninstall RealPlayer, or install and uninstall RealPlayer if that isnít possible. If that doesnít fix it, I would uninstall and install everything network including the dial-up. Winsock might be badly messed-up (http://duxcw.com/faq/network/winsock.htm Steps 7 and 8). Larry
