I have a cable modem connected to my ethernet card. I used to use that card to connect to my home network, but now I use it for my internet connection.
My problem occured when I tried adding a second card. Everytime I add the card, both the cards give me a problem. One will not initailize, and the other will ping, but I can't browse.
I'm running WinNT server 4.0 service pack 3,
and I tried running the networks cards on Linux too, but it gives me the same problem.
The card works fine in my other computer.
They both have a realtek RTL8029 chip.

Please describe the computer: motherboard, expansion boards, USB, etc. I removed your post in the motherboard forum with the same question. Larry

Sorry about posting the message in 2 forums..I wasn't sure where to post it.
I've got 4 PCI expansion slots, 2 ISA, 2 USB, 1 PS2 slot, 1 IrDa slot.
The motherboard uses a VIA vt82c585vpx PCI chipset, and a VIA VT82c586b PCI/ISA bridge.
It has a type 7, 321 pin ZIP socket,
and I use a CYRIX MII processor.
Don't know what else to put down.
Thanks a lot for your help.

What expansion boards besides the net adapters do you have in the computer? Do you have the Windows NT drivers installed for the network adapters? Or, are they NT drivers? Do you know the make and model (in addition to the chipset, which is widely used) of the network adapters (see http://duxcw.com/digest/Fromshop/mb/det.htm)? Both adapters work Ok when installed alone? Larry

Thanks for trying to help...I've got the cards working now..I don't know what the problem was, but I got them to work after enabling Plug and play in my system bios. I don't know why that helped because I'd disabled it only after I began facing this problem.
I'd tried using the drivers that came with NT first, and then the drivers that came with the LAN cards, but neither worked initially. This afternoon, I installed the nic cards again ( after a lot of praying) and they worked..
Thanks again for your time and attention.

Windows NT does not support Plug 'n Prey. Must have been some of the later. Larry
