Can the AND Athlon XP Processor Utilize DDR333 Memory?
lbyard May-13-02 10:53 AM
Apparently not unless one overclocks the CPU (which I do not do). And that makes sense as the bus from the northbridge chip to the CPU runs at 133 MHz (266 MHz DDR). And I would assume that if one overclocked the CPU, one would also overclock the memory and use DDR266 memory. http://www.legionhardware.com/html/doc.php?id=170 is the second set of benchmarks that showed essentially the same results, a did deerslayer at http://duxcw.com/dcforum/DCForumID8/110.html. In my opinion, for a 1% improvement in overall performance, DDR333 memory is not worth the price difference between it and DDR266 memory. Prices today for 256 Mbytes of DDR memory at Crucial were $111.59 for DDR333 and $76.49 for DDR266, or $39.10 difference. $39 is noticeable, 1% is not. Larry
