Windows thinks I have a P2 mmx processor when I have a P3 733 HELP!

I dont understand it when I boot my pc up it says that I have a p3 733 processor but when I look in windows it says I have a p2 mmx the pc is running very slow can anyone help?

If you have DirectX7 go to the dxdiag programme.In the main page it gives system info.What is your CPU listed as?

is it a new computer , i've heard of people over clocking their cpu, i think the person u bought it from must have over clocked it.
u can change the setting in the bios...

in the bios it says p3 733 but in windows it says p2 mmx I'm running windows 98 first addition could it be that I need second for it to realize I have a p3? anybody??

That is normal behavior…

“When you run the Microsoft System Information tool, or view the General tab in System properties, the Intel Pentium III or Celeron Central Processing Unit (CPU) in your computer may be listed as an Intel Pentium II CPU … This behavior occurs because Microsoft Windows is aware of only those friendly processor names that existed when Windows was developed.”

Running very slow is not. What do you have in the computer? Larry
