FDISK and WINME
raven16384 Apr-20-02 01:04 PM
hi all!
big problem on my hands and need all the help i can get!
i have a EIDE 14GB HDD and after a failed winME installation , i wanted to start from ground zero, meaning i wanted to delete the partition and re-format the drive.
when i used fdisk(which comes with winME boot disk)the states that there are no fixed disks drives present! (there is only one HDD in my PC and its already set to master
the interesting thing is that when i exit to the dos prompt,i can goto c:(HDD) and access the failed winME installation files!
i've also tried formatting the current partition and it says that format is not supported on this drive, that's impossibile! its a fat32 partitation and its only 14GB! i currently have nothing else on the hard disk
can anyone give me an explanination , or better, a solution to re-partition or re-format the drive?
thanks a lot
al

If you can get to C, the drive is present ... Try this http://www.duxcw.com/digest/Howto/buildcom/socka/13.htm

hi brian , thx for the input, but that is the problem! if the c:\ is already present, then why doesn't FDISK reconise there's a HDD present and the partition is ready? its like as if FORMAT AND FDISK does not reconise the existince of the HDD/partition but files are still accessable through the command prompt! how is that possibile is beyond me!
anyways, keep the good thoughts coming!

I would try a different boot disk, there are alot of them to be had at www.bootdisk.com or www.statdisk.com.
