msmsgs error message
MrStroker2 Mar-26-02 11:57 AM
We have windows ME and we just switched and started using MSN as our internet connection. To be exact it's: MSN 7, Internet Access dial-up. Since then (two day's ago) everytime we log on a MSMSGS message appears alerting us of a RTCRTP.DLL error that will now close MSN down. When we click close however it still stay's running but the annoying little error message pops up every time you do anything or click on anything. We called Msn twice, they were no help at all! Once they told us it was a windows problem and the next they said it was a msn messenger problem, but not their problem. I'm not sure what to do but we are locked into a contract with them for two more years! Also, when we use our internet explorer as our browser we don't get this error, only when we use our MSN as the browser. We have MSN as our e-mail so it would be convenient to have our browser as MSN. Please help if you can.

I would consider the contract cancelled and inform them so in writing. If it's part of computer purchase, I would take it back. Larry

No this is an exsisting computer that we have had for a while, Aol worked fine with this computer .....they tell us it worked fine with them because they provided a dial up account as well as a browser and we are kind of befuddled(is that a word?) here because we were thinking we purchased/ agreement with them for a dail up account as well as msn for our browser....they have had us remove and re-install msn messenger several times to no avail....do we try to get the msmsgs.dll file from some where or what is your thoughts on the advice they are giving us or how we may correct this?
Mike

Who are you using for you internet access? are you using AOL of MSN ...... the Messenger has nothing to do with your connection but is a separate Instant Messaging Service.

we was...... using aol for everything...
BUT....now we are using msn for everything, msn version 7.0 and we use a dial up connection provided by msn , we dial their number it signs us in and we are to be using their msn browser but its like not working at all nor is the messenger, So we are dialing up msn and browsing using internet explorer 6.0

This linux thing you keep referring to? how is that operation done/completed? is that a program other then windows and do we have to purchase that or is it all ready on our system?

The Linux comment is part of my automatic signature, Linux is another Operating system ... you can use it instead windows. I warn you though it isn't the easiest thing to configure. All versions of it can be had for around 40 bucks and it comes with a book of instructions. I don't run windows on any machine except my gaming one, I run Red Hat 7.2 on the rest.
