Why is WinXP setup so newbie-like?
Veky Mar-25-02 03:33 PM
Sorry for being a pain in the *cough, cough*, you know what.

WinXP setup (fresh install) is soooo User friendly or something...
(for total newbs)

Can I get during setup some advanced options, or choose what to install, where to install and such, as it was with previous Windows'es (when you started setup and clicked on custom setup).

All the options you can change is your name, regional settings and time... those are only the basic basics.

To sum up my question, can I have some advanced options when installing WinXP Professional?

It has a custom option. I used it the other day to setup a dual boot computer. Larry

How do I get to a custom option?

I only see press F2 for Automatic Recovery or something and press F6 if you need to install a raid driver.

I don't recall exactly, but it is the normal sequence of setting-up a clean install (not upgrade) from an older version or Windows for dual-booting and I beleive it is in the winnt setup from the DOS prompt (http://duxcw.com/faq/win/xp/clean.htm). The answer should be in http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q306559. That's where I started when I did the dual-boot install the other day. Larry
