XP: Yellow Programs and Virtual Desktops
zothommog Feb-14-02 02:40 PM
Why are some of my programs highlighted in yellow? I find it rather annoying. I thought it was highlighting the new programs, but the same ones stay highlighted no matter how often I run them.

Also, I heard XP supported multiple desktops (similar to KDE & Gnome). Can anyone confirm this (and tell me how to turn them on)?

Thanks in advance

This isn't what I was asking about...

I've heard that XP supports multiple desktops (ie, 4 buttons on the taskbar, each with a different desktop assigned to it). Is this true?

As I understand it, Windows NT, 2000, and XP have this capability built-in. Getting at it is another story (something I have not done). Apparently there was a set of PowerToys that allowed one to use the capability in Windows XP, but Microsoft has pulled the download.

“Microsoft PowerToys for Windows XP
(January 31, 2002 update) PowerToys will not be available today as previously stated here. We're sorry, because we know you like them a lot. PowerToys are currently being improved, and will be available for download in the spring.“
