Wierd Bootup problems w/ 98
JKennedy55 May-21-01 03:52 PM
Sparatically when I boot up my pc, it will check the memory ect, everythings looks normal, will go to the windows 98 screen with the blue sky backround and then will just go to a black screen and freeze. CTRL+ALT+DEL will not do anything, I need to manually turn off/on and try again. Sometimes it will happen up to 3 times in a row then next time will boot fine? Any ideas?

I do not currently have an anti virus program running on this pc. Do you think it is a virus?

Some virus programs can stop Win 98 from booting past the splash screen... I would first check the hard disk by booting to the DOS prompt (Press F8 just before Windows starts) and running scandisk...
C:\>scandisk
Do a surface scan after it checks the file structure, etc.; there may be a marginal cluster. Larry
