TENLOWZ Dec-25-00 00:21 AM
How can you make a folder private. What I mean is so that no one can just open it. Is there way i can put a password so that the folder will only open with the password.

thanks

You can change the properties of the folder--right-click it and select properties--so that the folder is hidden and no one but you will know it is there. You would also have to set your folder options (Tools, Folder Options) so hidden files are not shown. Of course, anyone could change that option back to show hidden files. If you are on a network and wish to protect a folder from access from another PC on the network, that can be done in the Sharing properties for the folder, but that will not stop someone from accessing the folder from your computer. Most computers have BIOS Setup features to password protect the entire computer. If you have Windows Me, you can create a compressed folder and then encrypt it with a password. See Windows Me help for instructions. WinZip (http://www.winzip.com/) also has this capability. Finally, see download.comís security utility section at http://download.cnet.com/downloads/0,10151,0-10105-106-0-1-0,00.html?tag=dir. Larry
