HD doesn't power up...any solution ?
yellow1 Dec-17-01 02:11 AM
My 2 year old Maxtor 60gig beast decided to stop powering up today...Anything I can try ?
I'd sure like to retrieve the 60gigs of mp3s stored on there !
I was thinking of maybe getting another 60gig and somehow replacing the platters in there. Any hope that might work or is it impossible and too risky ?
TIA

Check the cables. http://duxcw.com/digest/Fromshop/harddisk/spinup.htm might work, but it is a long shot and the drive probably would not come up long enough to get that much data off.

Forget that idea. It won't work. Take an old drive apart someday and you'll see why. If the printed circuit board is causing it, You may be able to swap it. But it would probably have to the same version and most require special tools. Larry
