Odd noises from Hd's, computer won't detect them
Aehs Oct-25-01 02:10 PM
I got 2 8.4gig Hd's in a trade and 1 of them makes a constant clicking noise the other one makes a weird noise like one of those radiation detectors, i've tryed booting as a master and a slave drive and it wouldent detect them. Any ideas Larry? I think they are dead.

I think you are correct. If the drives are identical, you may be able to make one good one out of two bad ones by swapping the printed circuit boards; however, special tools are usually required to remove the screws. Also, both drives can be easily damaged if you havenít done it before, which would make trading them back to whence they came unlikely. See Mueller, Upgrading and Repairing PCs, Que for more info. Most libraries (and every computer shop) should have a copy. Larry
