upgrading from a cpu 256k to a 512k?

I got a Dell..hahahaha..and want to upgrade the processor from a 1.7 256k to a 2.0 can i use the 2.0 512k or must I use the 2.0 256k? Im on a 850 board and Dell wont give me the info on that question only that the spec's say I can use either 1.4, 1.5, 1.7, 1.8, 1.9, 2.0 processor. It is real hard finding a 2.0 256k processor and the 512k would be a better one anyhow...but not sure on if that will work or not..
