Increase Memory?
markwb56 Jul-07-02 09:57 AM
If I increase my memory from 256MB to 512MB, would this help my system resources? The memory presently installed is 256MB PC2100 DDR. System resources typically are reported at 65% in System Properties/Performance tab. Is it at all feasable to to implement this upgrade in memory? Thankyou in advance for any feedback.

Probably. You may not need it. What's wrong with 65%? Memory is rather expensive at present. Larry

Larry, Thank you for the reply. I really don't know what, if anthing is wrong with 65% free system resources. I just figured based on what it was (up around 85%) prior to installing this new Yahoo web browser software that my ISP sent to all its subscribers, that maybe I was losing efficiency. It just seems as though the system is bogged down while on the internet. I previously used IE 6.0 as my browser, and may go back to it. It's my understanding that the more resources that are taken, the slower the machine, but maybe that's a misunderstanding on my part.

Your computer is a lot faster than mine. You are correct about the more you are running, the slower everything else is. If you are running Windows 98/Me you may want to Start, Run, and enter msconfig to see what programs are starting-up when you turn-on your computer. That might be a revelation. In my experience, AOL has been slow, if one can connect at all. Larry
