Does anyone know the difference between slot A and slot 1 processors. Are they the same?

Manufactured by AMD and Intel, respectively, which are not the same. If you plug an AMD Slot A processor into an Intel Slot 1 socket, which is possible, you will damage it (and may damage the motherboard), and vice versa. There are several variations of Slot 1 and only one Slot A.
