New Intel processors?
deerslayer Jun-18-01 10:24 AM
Larry,
Do you know when the new 1.13 and 1.2 processors are hitting resellers? I read that they were shipping in Asia last week. My motherboard already has an update to support the copermine T chip, so It can't belong.

Pentium 3 1000 @ 1185, Abit bx-133, 256 Mb Mushkin Rev.3 cas 2-2-2, Leadtek GeForce 3 Air Cooled.

Believe those are 1.13 server chips. They should launch tomorrow. I hear they will launch 1.13 and 1.2 gig, 0.13 micron Tualatin core desktop CPUs on the 6th of August. I don't know when they will hit the street. Larry

I use AMD processors for the most part. Why pay more for the Intel inside jingle? Larry

Well I am sure I will build an AMD system sometime, but since I have the Motherboard, and it will support the copermine T's, it is a upgrade without having to replace both cpu and mobo. Back when I had that motherboard die on me ifthat would have happened a few month earlier I would have swapped out and went AMD. A friend of mine has the IWILL KK266 and loves it. He sold his Abit kt7a after trying the IWILL out.

Oh, I just keep on waiting with my 500 Mhz K6-2. The nVIDIA chipset (http://duxcw.com/newsltr/vol1/5.htm) looks very interesting. Not so much for the built-in everything, but for the 128-bit DDR memory access and the 800 MHz HyperTransport between the Northbridge and Southbridge. Before nVIDIA I was waiting for a board with the SiS 735 chip, which also has a big pipe between the Northbridge and Southbridge and has been benched faster than the Ali and VIA chipsets. Before that it was the KT266 which had problems and turned-out to be slower than the others. Then there was the ALi chipset... So, I ended-up skipping the Slot A and KT133 generations. The CPUs went past anything I need in the way of speed when they hit 1 GHz. And they wonder why there is a tech slump. I believe this is the longest stretch I have gone without upgrading in the last 17 years. Larry
