Errors, Errors, and more Errors
BBATES Mar-13-01 01:46 AM
I upgraded the motherboard inside my son's computer, and now when I tried to reload windows I get Fatal Errors, Illegal Operation Errors, etc. at varible times. I formated the hard drive and started from scratch. The system boots fine, and I have used all of his old devices except sound and video cards. Because the system is running fine in dos, I'm to believe that this may be a device driver problem such as the video card? Problem is, I haven't gotten far enough to load the video or audio drivers in windows setup. Only once out of the 8 times I tried to install windows did it finish copying files to the hard drive, only for it to crash when setting up the control panel.
The system is really a simple little cheap system, socket 7 300 Cyrix with 64mb sdram, 8mb agp ati video card, audio pci sound. ALI Aladdin V Chipset Motherboard

Well, let’s get rid of some of the stuff that can cause those errors… Suggest installing Windows on a stripped-down system. Pull the sound card, extra drives, etc. Once you have Windows, and the motherboard and video drivers installed, start adding things one at a time. That's the way I do it. Larry

Well, after 3 hours of troubleshooting, I found that I forgot to set the motherboard's jumper setting for the processor voltage. Dah.
