Windows 98SE won't shut down!
Rod Jul-19-02 05:42 AM
Hi,
Can anyone let me know why when I turn off my PC, it won't actually turn off after I click on the "Shut Down".
I have to press the off button on the PC after I click on the "Shut Down".
I have left it sit there for a long period to see if it would turn off, but to no avail.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I recently formatted the whole PC and everything is running very well except this problem.
The O/S is Windows 98SE.

Thanks.
Rod

Have you fully updated your new OS with Microsofts update?
You can try this :

Click Start , point to Programs , point to Accessories , point to System Tools , and then click System Information .

On the Tools menu, click System Configuration Utility .

On the General tab, click Advanced .

Click to select the Enable Fast Shutdown check box, click OK , and then click OK .

Click Yes when you are prompted to restart your computer

Install this :

http://www.microsoft.com/windows98/downloads/contents/WURecommended/S_WUFeatured/Win98SE/Default.asp

That will fix you up.
