Cannot find modem driver
freedomland Jul-06-02 01:13 AM
I just formated my computer and now I'd finished installing every driver that was installed on my computer before I formated it, except the modem. Now for some reason I don't think I ever got or ever lost the cd for installing the modem driver. But before I went into formatting my computer, I recorded some information, and I wrote the modem as "Motorola SM556 PCI speakerphone modem" and another one reading "Motorola SM556 PCI speakerphone modem #2". I tried to find this driver on the internet, but I couldn't, please help.

I searched myself and it took me a while but I came up with this http://e-www.motorola.com/collateral/SM56_DRIVERS.html, you will want to make copies of those somewhere safe because according to their page they no longer off support for those modems.

Ok, I found I similar (but not the same) driver for my modem and I transfered it to my computer using floppies, but it still doesn't work. The only difference between the one I had before and the one now is that the one I just installed now doesn't have the letters PCI. It was called "Motorola SM556 PCI speakerphone modem", but now it only reads "Motorola SM556 speakerphone modem", and when I tried to go online, my internet service provider saids modem is not responding, just like before I installed the modem. I don't think that there is anything wrong with my modem because it worked the day before just when I was about to format my computer.

What OS did you install? Go to the link I provided and scroll to the bottom of the page, there are the drivers and what I beleive to be the software for the speakerphone modem and your choice is PCI or PCI 2, you might just have to try both and see what one works.

This sounds like fun... Why don't you do what I would do and find-out who really made the MODEM from the FCC number (http://duxcw.com/digest/Fromshop/mb/det.htm), if there is one, and go there? Larry
