Modems

I'd like to know three things...

1) Why are 56Kbps modems faster than the older 33,600bps modems?
2) Why don't 56Kbps modems transmit at 56Kbps?
3) If you install a 56Kbps modem into your computer and dial into a remote network that only has 33,600bps modems, is your modem useless?

Thanks... you're a star!

Why is 56 miles per hour faster than 33.3 miles per hour?

No, it should work at the lower speed. Larry
