PRO630 Laser printer Apple
kenis Feb-06-02 01:18 PM
The printer used to work fine on my home PC with Win 2000 etc.
I hooked up my LapTop HP6000,also with Win2000 set the printer settings to PRO 630 and could print any document very well. Later I hooked it back to my home PC and cannot print any documents. Did not change any settings or cables or ports. The printer only prints one big line on top of the page from left to right. The line is made of hunderds of little strange figures about 6mm high. I did not try to hook it back on the laptop. the printer does not print a start up page anymore Why does the printer not print anymore when hooked up to a PC? thanks

Larry, thanks for your quick reaction (to Belgium)
First this correction. The printer does print the start up page! Perfect quality!
Than I've tried 2 different print cables on 2 different pc's with Win2000.
I did the test yesterday with my laptop and it did not print the document.
It gave the same problem as the other pc's, a black line on top of the page, 6mm thick and made of little figures (looks like a spider)
Can this be a virus? I had a short warning on the laptop but cannot find any?
Txs Julien

Have you run a self test on the printer? Most printers have one. Larry

I can not find any way to run a self test. Any Idea where I can get some electronic diagrams?

Sorry, I cannot find or see any service manual. I find Misc/ and than Service/ but it seems to be empty?
This weeken we have tried to print with a Mac using Mac port, and that was OK. Is it possible that we have to flash the software for PC into the printer? Thanks, Julien

I just clicked on the link in my post and the manual downloaded just fine. The manual is in .pdf format and will take some time to download, especially if you are on a dial-up Internet connection. You may want to right-click the link and save it to disk instead of clicking on it directly. Larry

Thanks Larry, I've got the manual and I did some tests. The printer diagnostic (jumper on pin 7 and 9 on the DB9 connector) ended in a good result. The 4 LED's stayed on = no error fould.
I did make a service configuration test page. I activated the hidden button with a paper clip. The first page was OK (vertical lines) but there was nothing on the second... There is nowhere an explenation for this. Any ideas Larry?
Thanks,

Julien

If the manual shows a way to reset the printer to defaults, I would try that. Other than giving it a good technician wack, I don't know what else I can suggest from here. Larry
