Cursor disappears
lynpatterson Aug-15-01 12:18 PM
On a few occasions the cursor disappears and the mouse won't work. What does one do in this situation except pull the plug? It only happens rarely and I have to re-boot to get it going again.

I need some info on the computer, operating system, display adapter, monitor, memory, etc. to even hazard a guess on what is causing the problem. Larry

Sorry, Larry, thought it might be a common problem. Pentium 433 Celeron System, Windows 98, M/B 810 64MB RAM PC-100 8MB AGP VIDEO 8.4GBHDD
ACER KEYBOARD PS/2 ATX MIDI CASE Genius MouseMate98- NetScroll. This has happened about 4 times in 2 years. I wondered if I could use the keyboard to get things going when it happens rather than pulling the plug. Thanks. Lyn

An average computer... This is an extremely rare event and would be almost impossible to troubleshoot. I would move the mouse/scroll around and see if the cursor appears. That failing, I would give it the old 3-finger salute (hold both the Ctrl and Alt keys and press the Delete key). That should bring up the Windows task manager. You may see a program that is “not responding.” Pressing the Delete key should kill it and give you back control of Windows. You may have to press Delete 2 or 3 times and respond to a pop-up prompt. Otherwise, click shut down or give it another 3-finger salute to reboot. Implementation of the scroll function may have something to do with it. You may never see it again. If that is the only problem you are having consider yourself very fortunate and your computer one of the best there is. Larry

Thanks Larry for your prompt reply. It really is just a minor inconvenience when it happens as re-botting restores things to normal. Just thought I'd check. Thanks again. Lyn
