Hi Folks. Can anyone advise where to start looking at this one? An Athlon 700 being built by my neighbour won't boot until the reset button is pressed. On turning it on, the drives spin up, and fans go. However, there are no POST beeps and no display - the monitor does not power up. On pressing the reset button of it goes normally - one beep, monitor comes to life and everything boots up as you would expect. Once up and running it all works fine, until it has been turned off. Then, it is back to having to use the reset button. Anyone any clues?

Check all jumpers and the CMOS setup. He could have bad memory. Reseat or replace the display adapter. Pull all other boards and disonnect all drive cables until it boots OK. Larry

Hi Larry. Thanks for your input. The problem was solved by a motherboard swap. Another supposedly identical board was substituted and hey-presto, evrything alright. Thanks agian, Steve.

In a lot of unexplainable cases, reinstalling a supposedly bad board will prove that the bad board was a good board. I have done it many times. I have also seen dead boards play Lazarus by pulling them out of case, letting them sit overnight, and reinstalling them. One of those mysteries... Larry

With that same board, pulled from one machine that wouldn't work properly, we built another machine this evening. Same spec as the first (our sons are multiplayer game fans ) and guess what ? Worked perfectly first time! They certainly can be contrary beasts, these PC's. < My suspicion is that they are all female!! > Thanks for your input, Larry. Best Regards, Steve.
