To ping from win 2K, click Start, Programs, Accessories, Command Prompt. In the resulting DOS window type:
C:\>ping 192.168.0.1
Where 192.168.0.1 is an actual IP address on the network.
To ping from Win 9x, click Start, Programs, Accessories, MS-DOS Prompt…
To determine the IP address on a Win 9X computer, click Start, Run, enter winipcfg, and select the correct network adapter.
On the Win 2K machine, click Start, open a DOS window as before and type
C:\>ipconfig

Check this on the Win 2K computer… Start, Settings, Control Panel, System, Network Identification, Properties… Is it set to login to the domain at work or is it a member of you local network workgroup. Be sure hard disks have share names other than C$. Right-click the drive, Sharing, New Share… Larry
