jamesaldred Feb-26-01 01:19 PM
I have two PC's connected useing UTP cable thru a 10Mbit hub, i have replaced the cables, and i can ping from PC 1 to PC 2 BUT not from PC 2 to PC1.

Also when PC 2 tries to ping the other it times out, but on PC 1 i recive the packets sent but it does not send them back!!!

Any ideas guys?

Check the LEDs on the network adapters and hub. You should have a solid LINK LED and a blinking Activity LED. If not, verify that the cables are made correctly (http://duxcw.com/digest/Howto/network/cable/cable1.htm). Run the diagnostics that came with network adapters. The loopback test will fail because you do not have a loopback adapter. Check Start, Settings, Control Panel, System, Device Manager, network adapter for IRQ conflicts. Try another port on the hub. Try moving the adapters to another PCI slot. If your motherboard has a VIA chipset, be sure the 4-in-1 Drivers (http://www.viatech.com/drivers/index.htm), specifically the IRQ driver, are installed.
