Error insdtalling IPX/SPX
andrew Nov-22-00 06:03 AM
I have 2 lan cards installed. One an Intel Pro10/100 ethernet adapter which connects to my cable modem. The other, a Realtek 8139 adapter which is a peer to peer connection with my second PC.

Whenever I bind the IPX/SPX protocol, I get an error message ....

"An error has occurred while installing protocol 0. Error 254"

Is there any reason why I cannot installed the IPX/SPX protocol. Thanks

If you do not need the IPX/SPX protocol for a specific program remove it. You shouldn’t need a protocol besides TCP/IP to run (file, printer, and Internet sharing, etc.) a Local Area Network (LAN). If you need a protocol besides TCP/IP (I’ve seen cases where one was needed as a work around for a LAN TCP/IP problem, and examples are in this Forum), I would install NetBEUI. If you have IPX/SPX protocol installed, say for a game that requires that protocol, you do not need the Microsoft Client for Novell Networks installed unless you have a Novell file server on your LAN. In that case remove that client (do not remove the Client for Microsoft Networks). If you need the Novell client because you have a Novell server, see Microsoft Knowledgebase Article ID: Q142489 http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q142/4/89.asp?LN=EN-US&SD=gn&FR=0&qry=Q142489&rnk=1&src=DHCS_MSPSS_gn_SRCH&SPR=W98 for instructions on how to fix the problem.
