You should use one cross-over cable and one straight thru cable. Go to http://www.duxcw.com/digest/Howto/network/cable/cable5.htm
for an excellent graphic on cables.

I just realized that the graphic in the middle of the web page I sent you to (comparing a cross-over to a staight-thru cable) can be used as a "model" for what you want to do. Imagine a straight-thru cable coupler between the diagrams.
