Losing Internet Connection but not file sharing behind router
Unicorn May-19-02 10:06 PM
Hi,

This problem has been driving me nuts for weeks and I thought maybe someone would read this post and say "I know what is causing that" I have 4 computers networked together all using 3com 905 tcx combo cards (10/100) I am using a linksys befsr 4 port router. The problem I keep running into is that on a daily basis I am forced to reboot the computer I work on to reestablish internet connectivity. I am still able to access all other network resources (files on other computers, printers etc) but when I check email using eudora I get the error message "host not bound to socket" and when I try using my browser (IE 6.0) I get the message that the webpage can not be displayed. I have tried removing/reinstalling the NIC, removing and reinstalling Netbui and TCP/IP from the network neighborhood, but nothing seems to work. The problem first appeared when I bought the router, I was using an old computer as a server before running sygate software, and never had this issue. I have also tried a different router (one by netgear) but the problem remained the same. I have tried releasing/renewing through winipcfg once the error appears, but I get an error message when attempting this. I installed and have been running the 3Com NIC doctor software, which assures me that everything is fine :/ Any suggestions would be appreciated, especially ones that actually work

Does the problem happen with the other computers? If not, what's different? Larry

The other 3 computers are barely used so I have not seen the problem occur on them. When the problem occurs on the machine I use the most, the others still have their internet access intact, but I am not certain whether or not the same thing would happen if I was using one of the others as much as I use the main one.

What is the error message you get when releasing and renewing the IP address with winipcfg? Before doing that, however, what do the LEDs on the network adapter and router tell you right after you have the problem? Larry
