I am networking 2 computers, 1 an Xp (host) the other Me (client).
They are connected with a crossover cable and dial up internet connect. I ran the ICS software on the Xp , copied it to disc and ran it in the Me (disabling the ICS in the Me). The problem is the Me computer is trying to dial into the internet even though I am already connected to the internet with the Xp. Our Isp is MSN, Why can't the Me get signed in. The Main reason that I networked the 2 computers is for the sharing of the internet and the 2 computer to be able to surf at the same time. How do I fix this problem.

See http://duxcw.com/digest/Howto/network/win98se/client.htm. Select never dial a connection. Larry

Thanks for the reply.
I did what the article said but the client computer is still trying to dial in even when the host is connected to the internet.

Start, Settings, Control Panel, Internet Options, Connections, Never dial a connection is selected? If so, then there is something else trying to dial. Start, Run, enter msconfig and take a look at possible Startup Programs that may be doing it. Larry

I finally got the problem fixed. I had to go in and take out the MSN explorer and reinstall it on the client computer. Now it signs in with out trying to dial in.
The other question is can I dial in from the client computer to my ISP or does the host computer have to be the one to establish the connection.

You should be able to cause the host to dial-in from the client. Check the dial selections in the Properties of the dial-up connection (Win 9x… My Computer, Dial-up Networking, right click the connection, Properties, Dialing or Me… Start, Settings, Dial-up Networking…). Hang-up IC Host Dial-up MODEM from an ICS Client at http://duxcw.com/faq/ics/hangup.htm might be of interest. Larry
