What could cause this error while upgrading firmware in Linksys BEFSR41 router?
abergdc Mar-07-02 00:39 AM

I've just installed my new LinkSys BEFSR41 ver 2 router/switch, with my cable modem, and the internet connection works fine. But when I try to update the firmware (there is a somewhat newer version), I download the firmware file, click on the *.exe, and follow instructions. When I finally click on "upgrade", there is a pause then the error message "Cannot resolve host address". Any idea what this could be about?

Thank you,

Andy

Not entirely, but "Cannot resolve host address" usually means that a computer cannot determine the IP address of another computer (the router is a computer) from the domain/host name. I would try again. The software could be at fault. Try setting the instance of the TCP/IP protocol bound to the network adapter going to the router on the PC you using to upgrade the router to obtain itís IP address automatically, disable DNS, and then Start, Run, enter winipcfg, select that adapter, and release and renew the IP address. You should see it change as the PC obtains its IP address from the routerís DHCP server. I would turn-off any other PCs on the network while fixing this problem. Larry

Thanks for the help. It turned out I was typing in "http:\\" then the internet address. Should've just skipped that. Oops, silly mistake.
So far, it's been a breeze (except for this little hick-up).
