LAN - 10Mbs or 100Mbs that's the question...
gnpc Feb-22-02 04:42 AM
I have 2 computers connected trough a crossover cable (i made it myself). One has 2 NIC (one for my cable modem and the other for the LAN, Windows XP running on Atlhon XP Pro 1700+,256Mb RAM), the other computer has only one NIC (Windows 2000 running on Pentium II, 160Mb RAM). If i use 10Mbs Half or Full Duplex he works just fine but when i use 100 Mbs it takes +2 minutes just to see the contentes of the disks.
Both the nics are 3Com 3CSOHO Fast Ethernet Adapter (bought them yesterday).
Already changed the nic's to see if it was a problem with one of them, but the same happened; already tried the auto-detect (this was the default configuration) and when i forced it to 100Mb Full Duplex it gave me the same thing, 3 hours to copy a 700 Mb file
How can i put the network at 100 Mbs?

And here's the answer: Fix the crossover cable (http://duxcw.com/digest/Howto/network/cable/cable1.htm). That is usually the problem (http://duxcw.com/faq/network/cableprob.htm). http://duxcw.com/faq/network/slownet.htm. Larry
