Win98se/win98se, client cpu can't get online, server cannot ping client
Nelson2k Nov-07-01 09:24 PM
I got 2 win98se machine

the server has 2 cards, i used to use sygate for this but eveyrone says sygate is no good for win98se

so i listened to them and went with the ICS
i installed the protocal and all ip addresses r set.

i am now able to share mapped drives but my client still do not have internet.

i'm trying to make it share cable connection witha hub.

i tried pinginng the server from my client, it works
but when i try to ping my client from my server, it times out. i have asked a lot of poeple and no one could answer my question. I'm trying to understand y i can't ping my client and what went wrong.

also my client computer always have invalid page vault after i opened IE and try to connect to a site, i'm not sure if this is what cause the problem or if it was some settings which caused this.

Set the client to obtain its IP address automatically. Then Start, Run, enter winipcfg, select the network adapter, and release and renew the IP address. You should see it change. Ping the new address from the ICS host. Verify that IE Internet Options, Connections, LAN Settings has no boxes checked. Larry

Yea i tried that, donno y it is still not working

in winipcfg
client shows 192.168.0.2
sub is 255.255.255.0
and default gateway is 192.168.0.1 which is the same ip as the nic card in the server that connects to the hub.

i'm not sure y it is still not working.

my client cpu has ips/spx, netbeui, tcp/ip
the regular adapters, and client for ms, file and printer sharing.

the server has all the same but with ICS protocal.

i also tried giving it dns, and gateway for the client, with the ip of 192.168.0.1

i can only share files, and can ping the server from client, but can't ping client from server

Can you ping 216.92.56.121 from the client? If so, can you browse to http://216.92.56.121/ Larry

If you can ping 216.92.56.121 and not ping duxcw.com, then you do have a DNS problem and I would enter the IPs. Larry
