Networking Prob

i set up an network at my place,one pc running XP and the other running 98.a crossed the cables and everything,and it all worked except for one thing.when i open network neighborhood on 98 and i cant see or access the other pc files or hard drives and i have all my HDs and CDroms and everything shared on both pcs.same for XP btw.i even tried via the run command to access any of the 2 pcs it just didnt work.ironically i can play LAN games (!).i also have dial up connection and the server's the pc running 98 ( second edition) since i dont have a modem on the other one,and i cant enter the net on the PC running XP.i was told i have to set up something called internet sharing whatever.. plz i really need your help guys.anyone!?

For file sharing see http://duxcw.com/faq/network/brreq.htm and http://duxcw.com/faq/network/names.htm. You may have to install the NetBEUI protocol in addition to TCP/IP (see http://duxcw.com/faq/network/xpnetbeui.htm for XP). It would probably be better to put the MODEM in the XP machine and use XPís Internet sharing. Iíll be doing some of that that later this week when I build and network three XP computers (I hope, whew!). To Install ICS on 98 SE, see http://duxcw.com/digest/Howto/network/win98se/intro.htm.
