Use of Whois
M Bosworth Apr-19-02 05:26 AM
This may be a dumb question, if so apologies.

Can I use the info from a Whois to find the name of the ISP hosting the site?
I wanted to try to locate the ISP of a site that is allegedly building a petition, if genuine, fine, if not then its harvesting email addresses in which case I and fellow email-listers should avoid it.

Yes it will for Windows users the best source of WHOIS, is www.samspade.org ..... you can trace back a web page to who owns the domain ( such as .com, .org's and the like). The whois will give you a listing of the administrative contact, the technical contact and a phone number. If you can't figure it out, let me know and I will look it up for you.
